6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (Nov 29)
3. Telegraphing The Finish A Mile Away
You can’t broadcast that you’re going to run a DQ finish from the opening bell and expect to keep fans enthralled.
That was the problem plaguing the main event of Raw, as Big E tangled with Kevin Owens in a match where if KO won, he’d be added to the Day 1 world championship match involving Seth Rollins. But before the bout began, Rollins came down to join commentary, already clearly worked up, so the finish was never in doubt.
That on its own wouldn’t necessitate a down here, but then the match went 15 minutes, after a less-than-stellar show. Big E hadn’t been seen until a pre-match promo backstage shortly before the contest either.
Everything just felt like, “Hurry up and get to the obvious DQ so we can all go home.” That’s not a good feeling to have, and it definitely detracted from a match that was moving along as if it knew it wasn’t going to matter.
