7 Main Eventers Who Flourished In The Midcard
5. Kevin Owens
Immediately after losing his Universal title to Goldberg at Fastlane 2017, Kevin Owens was thrust into the United States championship picture against former best friend, Chris Jericho. At WrestleMania 33, Owens won the title for the first time against Jericho in a stellar match that kick-started a great series between the two. His reign lasted less than a month with Jericho recapturing the title at Payback 2017, only for him to take the title back in a rematch three days later on Smackdown Live.
The feud against Jericho helped elevate the midcard and the title and led to Owens’ brilliant albeit short ‘New Face of America’ chapter. His recent feud for the title against AJ Styles has been fairly enjoyable despite a lacklustre start and a lot of involvement from Shane McMahon but at least the title feels bigger and is now being defended on a regular basis.
