7 Main Eventers Who Flourished In The Midcard
1. The Miz
If you were to say many years ago that The Miz would be Mr. Money in the Bank, cash in successfully on Randy Orton, and then go onto to retain the WWE title against John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXVII, no one would have believed you. While his run with the title was lacklustre to say the least, The Miz went from strength to strength when he was bumped back down to the midcard.
In 2012, The Miz began his love affair with the Intercontinental title by defeating Christian on the 1000th episode of Raw to become the company’s 14th Grand Slam Champion. Since then, he has held the title a further six times putting on great matches with Dean Ambrose, Kofi Kingston, and Dolph Ziggler. With the exception of Chris Jericho, no other wrestler has held the championship more times than The Miz.
As proved on Talking Smack, The Miz is also capable of having an excellent feud without even having to wrestle. His now famous promo and constant taunting of SmackDown Live General Manager, Daniel Bryan, shows the best side of The Miz’s detestable character and his near-perfect mic skills.
The Miz is also remembered fondly from his bizarre partnership with Damien Sandow, or should I say Damien Mizdow. The two went on to hold tag team gold and even though the star was Damien acting as The Miz’s stunt double, The Miz rolled with it and the comedy duo became one of the main reasons to tune in every week.
The Miz is barely even thought of these days as a main event talent. Few people would realistically buy into him beating Brock Lesnar for the Universal title but the man has found a niche for himself and has flourished as a midcard performer with upper card talent and charisma.
