7 Occupational WWE Gimmicks That Were Really Stupid
7. The Mountie
The Mountie wasn't a very original gimmick because they had already done Big Bossman's gimmick. The difference between the two is that Bossman was much more successful. If you're wondering, a Mountie is a short form for members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. While the RCMP is prominent in Canada, we also have regular police officers in the blue or black uniforms that everybody else in the world has too. When Jacques Rougeau debuted as The Mountie, he also had Jimmy Hart as his manager because who else can manage a Canadian officer than a guy from the southern US? It was a weird pairing to say the least. The Mountie was known for using what they called a "shock stick" to stun opponents when a ref's back was turned or he would do it after matches. It was a cheap way for him to win matches. He ended up winning the Intercontinental Title from Bret Hart although he only had a two day reign dropping it to Roddy Piper in early 1992 and he eventually became a lower card wrestler. They brought him back as one half of the Quebecers with Pierre and in their song they said "we're not the mounties" because maybe fans thought he was still a mountie? It's hard to know what the thinking was behind it.
