7 Reasons WWE Moving Smackdown Back To Thursdays Is Smart

7. It Hurts TNA (Whether It Was Intentional Or Not)

A Smackdown move to Thursday would destroy TNA Impact Wrestling simply because WWE is a much bigger company with an audience that follows everything that they do. While WWE's ratings for Smackdown are not as strong as they were 15 years ago, they still pull in solid numbers and it's one of the highest rated shows on cable television. The assumption is that when WWE signed the new agreement with NBC Universal that it was known at that point that Smackdown would move to Thursdays. While we didn't know about it until this week, it's likely that people in the television industry were aware. Specifically, the people at Viacom and Spike TV that are in the process of either keeping TNA's Impact Wrestling on their network or letting it go. There's no way Spike TV wants to pay TNA money to go head to head with Smackdown. Perhaps TNA can convince them to move the show to Tuesday or Wednesday. Impact isn't strong enough to grow on Fridays. Don't underestimate the shrewdness of WWE. They're right when they say TNA isn't competition, but they are also smart enough to know that a move to Thursday would be one of the final nails in the Impact Wrestling on Spike TV coffin.
