7 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (19 Jan)

6. Serena 'The Hitwoman' Hart

Serena Deeb Skye Blue
AEW

Serena Deeb is the closest thing modern wrestling has to Bret Hart in many ways, one of which being the way she utilises tiny windows of opportunity to craft something meaningful.

Last night's match with Skye Blue was always going to be a squash. It should have been, too, given the experience gulf and how it plays into their respective card positions and current directions. But instead of eating Skye alive and throwing any semblance of storytelling to the side, Serena targeted the neck with cranks, neckbreakers, and guillotines, softening it up for the Deebtox. Hitting it a few minutes in was definitely enough to finish the job. Instead, Deeb got cruel, tying a helpless Blue up in the Serenity Lock for the tapout.

A good, simple in-ring story that played out in just under three minutes, this was a great example of a wrestler making the most of a squash. Tremendous stuff.
