7 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (15 July)
2. Bey Goes Solo
Chris Bey turning on his squad was an inescapable path en-route to Slammiversary. Why would someone who goes by the moniker of 'The Ultimate Finesser' stand with three guys who he's going to be facing just two days after? All he needed to do here was win, which he did by sneaking in a rollup over Shera.
Bey assaulted Josh Alexander and Trey Miguel with a chair post-match, eventually being chased off by Petey Williams. Stood behind the barrier, he motioned that he wasn't on anyone's side, but rather going into Saturday's Ultimate X match.
In general, this eight-man tag was decent. Ace Austin and Madman Fulton, in particular, were fabulous throughout; Fulton was lifting opponents with ease and knocking everyone off the opposite corner in one swift motion. Again, inescapable was the match breaking down into everyone-gets-their-sh*t-in territory. A Canadian Destroyer here, a Paige Turner there, a stiff Chokeslam across the knee also. It was fine, regardless of its cheap pop appeal in multi-man contests.
A solid match that benefitted from its aftermath. Ultimate X legitimately can't come soon enough with these lads involved.
