7 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (6 May)

4. Club Business

First off, props to IMPACT for bringing in AEW Dark regular VSK. He’s a safe pair of hands to use as a glorified enhancement talent; just ask Nick Comoroto, Brian Cage, Ricky Starks, et al.

Using him to lose to El Phantasmo in the Bullet Club member’s IMPACT debut was a great move. There was no reason an already-established member of the IMPACT roster needed to be losing to ‘The Headbanga’, so using what is essentially a jobber in AEW lore was the way to go if they weren’t using Sam Beale.

What made this better, though, is that VSK wasn’t just a jobber. He came close to pinning Phantasmo, which is fine, so long as he didn’t overstay his welcome. The New Yorker was put away in under five minutes, but only after some cracking offence. That standing frog splash was exquisite.

Phantasmo got the win with a Sudden Death superkick, having spent the majority of the match showboating over VSK that included feigning a tree of woe dropkick, and instead standing on VSK’s groin. He knows he’s a cocky d*ck, but he can get the job done. A fun little match this.
