7 Ups & 5 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Homecoming 2021

4. Spots For Spots Sake

Your writer gets it. By starting Homecoming with a surprise in the former Aiden English, you're instantaneously getting the audience excited. His IMPACT debut with Deonna Purrazzo vs. Hernandez and Alisha Edwards wasn't good.

It had its moments; the now-Matthew Rehwoldt giving Deonna a pep talk as she took it to Hernandez was great. They worked fine together. Matthew, in particular, looked excellent here. His match-ending facebuster variant was unique, his pre-match promo was captivating, and he simply looked like he belonged in IMPACT.

So, why did Hernandez dive on him, followed by Alisha doing a dive on him within the same minute? It felt entirely like 'Lish saw the reaction for Hernandez's dive, and wanted something to help her stand out in the match. There wasn't a reason for it, even more so when you consider the quality of the dive itself; a tad sloppy, for those wondering. Additionally, who even were the babyfaces and heels here? Hernandes and Alisha were presented as the former, but had ringside assistance from Johnny Swinger at one stage. This was as confusing as it gets.

This wasn't the grand debut Rehwoldt needed, but he made up for it later in the tournament. Nonetheless, this didn't live up.
