6. WWE Video Games Preview The Authority

Oh, the temptation is there to boot up the old PS2, PS3 or Xbox 360 and play some SmackDown vs. Raw 2007. 2K's series has been on quite the comeback tour since 2K22, but those vintage THQ titles just hit different for a lot of folks (this writer included). Did you know? THQ fancied themselves as budding WWE TV writers, and they produced a few in-game storylines that actually came true.

In SD vs. Raw '07, which was released in late-2006, there was a story that saw Triple H hang up his boots to become an authority figure. During one of his in-ring promos, 'The (Digital) Game' even said: “It’s what right for business, and I always do what’s right for business”. That was eerily similar to The Authority’s “best for business” catchphrase from 2013 onwards.

It’s almost like WWE’s creative team played through the story mode, liked this plot and poached it for real life programming. That probably didn't happen, but it's all rather coincidental. For more eerie 'video game to real life' moments, one need only look at Eddie Guerrero dying in SmackDown vs. Raw 2006 shortly before he passed in real life, or ECW getting a revival led by Rob Van Dam ahead of Vince McMahon bringing the hardcore promotion back as a standalone brand in '06.

Trips talking about how he wanted to be the true authority in WWE a full 6-7 years before he actually did so on television is wild too though. THQ stopped short of putting a pixellated Stephanie McMahon by his side. That would've been even crazier.
