7 Weirdest Times WWE Accidentally Predicted The Future
1. John Cena’s Unthinkably Short Heel Run
WWE regretted John Cena's heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025 almost instantly. Within weeks, it became obvious that they didn't have a brilliant follow up chapter to go with the insanely shocking pilot, and The Rock wasn't even part of Cena's heel story after Chamber. In short, it was a complete waste of wrestling's once-elusive rogue move.
5 years prior, the promotion had booked a more lighthearted "heel turn".
During Cena's barmy ‘Firefly Fun House’ match vs. Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, JC was shown turning heel on Bray Wyatt as part of the nWo. It was played for laughs inside Wyatt’s nightmare hellscape and alternative reality, but it previewed what was coming at Elimination Chamber 2025. Nobody thought Cena would turn heel, but he did. For real this time.
However, perhaps the most amazing thing about all of this is that John was a heel for less than a few minutes at ‘Mania 36. In 2025, he was only heel for a few months before everyone agreed it wasn’t working and he turned babyface again just like that. The time was stretched from minutes to months for the real deal, but there were similarities to 2020's joke turn. Maybe more than WWE realistically wanted there to be!
Like Rocky in 2025, Wyatt's various alter egos perverted John's ironclad babyface status and had him under a spell. Unlike 2020's cinematic silliness though, the proper heel turn flopped.
