One of the greatest WrestleMania what ifs to this day remains Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair nearly colliding in an encounter for the ages in the main event of WrestleMania VIII.

The match had all the makings of a classic considering it would have seen two of the most popular stars in wrestling at that time battling at the Showcase of the Immortals. Flair was fresh off capturing the WWE Championship at the 1992 Royal Rumble; in fact, he dumped Hogan from the Rumble before going on to win the whole thing.

It was clear WWE was building to the bout leading up to the pay-per-view, but for whatever reason, they changed plans and went in a different direction with both men. Flair held the gold through WrestleMania, but he wound up facing Randy Savage at the Show of Shows instead.

As fantastic of a feud as it was, it played second fiddle to the Hogan vs. Sid Justice story being told at the time. There wasn't anything on the line in their rivalry, making it all the more mind-boggling when Flair and Savage took a backseat to Hogan and Sid in the WrestleMania VIII main event.

Flair deserved to compete in the main event of 'Mania at least once in his iconic career, and 1992 would have been the year for him to do it.
