8 Best Excuses For Wrestlers Not Doing A Job
5. Not Enough Build
While many of the stories on this list are uncorroborated, we can be pretty sure that the one about Stone Cold Steve Austin staunchly refusing to job to Brock Lesnar in 2002 is true, mainly because the man himself has admitted it.
His reason - or so he tells us - was that he felt a feud between him, one of the biggest stars wrestling has ever seen (those are our words, not his), and Brock Lesnar, a bright up-and-comer with a huge future ahead, was box office stuff.
As such, he didn't believe it was a sensible decision for WWE to give this one away for free - amazingly, it was all supposed to go down on an episode of Monday Night Raw - and, more importantly, without a solid few weeks of build-up.
None of that is invalid, but let's not forget that the Texas Rattlesnake, however much wrestling nous he may have had, was a wrestler, not a member of the creative team. This is akin to a football player defying their coach's instructions on the field: even when you're right, you're still wrong.
