Imagine being part of WWE's creative team and realising that there could be as many as 17 pay-per-views in a year. That huge quantity of television becomes even more bloated when realising that Raw is three hours long and SmackDown another two every single week. Writing so much television cannot be easy, so it's a given that creative will produce a stinker every so often.

In 2017, they have. There's been some seriously useless matches on pay-per-view during the first half of the year. We're not just talking from a match quality standpoint, because that's not the issue. No, the question must be posed why these matches were even staged in the first place? What were WWE trying to achieve?

Big pay-per-view cards are supposed to feature the absolute best matches both brands can offer. Sadly, a fair number were aired long after feuds had passed their sell-by date and some were blatantly only there to fill air time. Others, well they just didn't belong...
