8 Things That Doomed Seth Rollins WWE Title Reign From The Start
1. WWE Struggles Booking Non "Monster" Heel Champions
If the booking of Seth Rollins since becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion was to get a grade, it couldn't get much more than a D. Thus far it would be hard to picture Seth Rollins beating anyone cleanly in a fair match situation. Perhaps this was their goal the whole time, but they are leaving so much on the table by pigeonholing him into the standard chicken sh*t champion role.
Historically, WWE has struggled to book non-monster heel champions since the end of HHH's mid 2000's run. With such strong face champions like Cena, Batista, and CM Punk (as a face), most of the heels end up as the same guy. Here are a few names that had similar runs of mediocrity as weasel punk champions: The Miz 2011, CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio (heel) Christian 2011, Daniel Bryan 2012, and Chris Jericho 2002.
Seth Rollins has been undone by a system he totally could have challenged as a heel champion. Instead, WWE has relied on their common weak champion trope to establish Rollins as a reviled heel, when a badass Seth Rollins could have been dominating the roster from day one as champion.
If we are near the end of Seth's first reign as champion, it will be remembered for the ratings slide, and the fact he seemed beatable at any time. Hopefully, WWE will look inward rather than at Rollins when evaluating his time on top.
