ECW closed its doors over 10 years ago, but the impact that the promotion had on the wrestling business is still felt today. Today's younger fans weren't even alive when ECW shut down, but that does not stop them from screaming "E-C-Dub" when a former ECW Superstar appears and does something extreme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6Aer6NlwAA RVD is one of the Superstars who receives this chant the most because he was one of ECW's biggest assets during their run. WWE commentators still mention ECW almost every time RVD gets in the ring and WWE has milked every bit of life out of the ECW name that they could before finally dropping it from PPV branding and their own version of ECW on Syfy. It's great to know that a promotion that operated in a local market without a major presence on television could leave such a lasting legacy in a business where those in charge assume the fans all have no long-term memory.
I have been a writer for Bleacher Report for several years, and am now happy to also be a writer at What Culture! I do my best to contribute anywhere I can in a positive way, and that includes in my writing. Some people call me The Doctor, but Chris is fine.
