8 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling Emergence 2021

1. The Greatest X Division Champion

Josh Alexander legitimately may go down as the greatest X Division Champion ever.

His consistently exquisite series of matches since lifting the title proves this perfectly. He's an impeccable talent, one who isn't shy of going that extra level in his title defences. He seems unafraid to lose the title in doing so, which actually enhances Josh's character.

Against Jake Something, 'The Walking Weapon' produced something that transcended the X Division style, for lack of a better term. There were a few flying moments, with Jake clearing the top rope at one point with a dive that D-Lo Brown compared to a Boeing 747 taking off. When they were grounded, though, the real meat of the contest got a chance to blossom.

This was a stiff fight. Alexander's C4Spike on the apron towards the culmination exemplified this, with Jake's skull landing directly on the ring apron in a deadly spot. This wasn't an apron spot for the sake of an apron spot, though; the former North member knew he had to do something extra to leave as the champion, resulting in the spot coming to fruition. A succession of ten German suplexes preceded this, too.

Josh Alexander is going to be World Champion one day, and he's going to surprise many in doing so. This match ruled, allowing Jake Something to have a standout moment in the process.
