8 Ups & 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Aug 27)

6. Well, At Least He Won...

Chad Gable Shelton Benjamin

And here's the silver lining to all the height-related bullsh*t that Chad Gable has endured in recent weeks: beating former partner Shelton Benjamin in a quick King of the Ring match.

The bout itself was solid enough, though too short to yield any meaningful action. While both men looked good - when don't they? - the strikes, exchanges of holds, and suplexes were secondary to the outcome. Gable needed to beat Benjamin here, and he did.

Let's hope this means the former American Alpha man finally leaving this nonsense behind and moving into a more meaningful programme. He's too hard-working and too talented to be rotting in regressive storylines designed to accentuate his one weakness as a performer, and it'll be interesting to see how he fares versus Andrade in their KOTR quarter-final.
