8 Ups And 2 Downs For WWE NXT (Apr 20)
Downs...
2. LA Has A Good Knight, Lumis? Not So Much
LA Knight definitely had some unfinished business coming out of TakeOver: Stand and Deliver after being Silenced by Dexter Lumis post-elimination from the Gauntlet Eliminator. The pair therefore met in one-on-one action last night, with Lumis coming off of his latest abduction a week ago which involved the star carrying a possum playing Indi Hartwell into the back.
When it comes to the meat and bones of the match itself, these two actually have a decent amount of chemistry. Knight's flamboyant arrogance acts as the perfect foil for Lumis' sometimes stale ominous force schtick. With an extended feud, you could argue this duo could produce a little bit of magic, evidenced in a spot involving a terrified Knight backing crotch first into the ring post after being crawled towards by the blonde haired weirdo.
But, it wouldn't be a Lumis segment in NXT if The Way weren't involved in some, well, way. Sure enough, with little explanation as to what went down after being whisked off her feet last week, Hartwell suddenly appeared on the scene and successfully distracted both men for a spell. However, it was Knight who would take advantage of this arrival in the end, drilling Lumis with a spinning facebuster as he distractedly made his way back into the ring.
Romance angles in wrestling rarely work, it has to be said, though there have obviously been a few exceptions over the years. However, this doesn't look like one of them and simply feels like another way of extending the never-ending Way/Lumis drama for a few more weeks, or dare I say, months.
Less post-match attempts to steal a smooch and more Lumis petrifying fools into whacking their nads, please.
