8 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE NXT (Aug 10)
5. 2 Out Of 3 Falls Set For TakeOver 36
You knew NXT had to go big at TakeOver 36 after already delivering two all-out wars between Kyle O'Reilly and Adam Cole. So what did William Regal decide to do? Throw the pair into a best-of series of matches all on the same night as it was officially revealed that Cole/O'Reilly III will be contested under 2-out-of-3 falls rules.
Regal would also explain that both competitors would get a pick for the first two stips, with the GM deciding on the third match-type (if it was needed). What was quite refreshing about the duo's thought process behind each of their eventual picks was the sound logic that reinforced them - I know! Who'd have thunk it in this feud?
O'Reilly opted for a singles match for the first stipulation as he felt that a loss to him one-on-one under standard rules would deal out more damage to Cole's ego than any steel chair could. Whereas Cole felt that a straight-up street fight would give him the opportunity to put his former pal away for good after he, surely, comes away with the clean sweep before a third stip is even triggered.
A back-and-forth war of words focused on who is actually the better man of the two soon followed, thankfully replacing the failed attempts to infuse some "personal" drama into the programme a month or so ago - continue to leave Kyle's wife out of it, Adam. Then, as things inevitably devolved into violence, Regal bellowed out that a steel cage will be lowered for the third and deciding match between the two on the night... again, if needed.
Will this feud's last hurrah be Cole's last black and gold stand? Or will he come away with the victory on his way to the main roster? Literally anything is possible in this company, so keep your eyes glued to your TVs, folks. Or just keep refreshing Twitter.
