8 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 23)

3. The Best Outcome

Baron Corbin Chad Gable

This might shock regular readers, but this is an item praising something involving Baron Corbin.

The 2019 King of the Ring battled Chad Gable Monday in a rematch of last week’s KOTR finals. The contest got hot, with fans strongly behind Gable as he tried to overcome the obnoxious regent. But neither man could put the other away.

Then, Gable flipped out of an End of Days attempt and picked the ankle for an anklelock submission. Corbin flailed around and finally grabbed his scepter, using it to cause the DQ. He then laid waste to the Olympian, losing the match by choice but maintaining his momentum by taking out Gable.

Had Corbin lost outright, it would have been a great moment for Gable, but it would have been a horrific moment for Corbin and the King of the Ring itself, neutering the entire point of winning the crown. This allowed Gable to have a moral victory, while Corbin was left standing tall.

Plus, it was a pretty good match. And kudos to whomever designed Corbin’s new royal threads. They fit his character well.
