9 Best Martial Artists Turned Wrestlers

1. Ken Shamrock

Ken Shamrock, regardless of how "believable" you thought his gimmick was with the WWE, is a certified badass. That title, "The World's Most Dangerous Man"? That's not just a cute little nickname Vince McMahon gave him. That could very well be real. (Or, at the very least, was real back in the 90s.) Introduced to mixed martial arts by his friend, Dean Malenko, Shamrock left his job as a bouncer and started training to get involved with the Japanese MMA promotion, Pancrase. Using a combination of shootfighting and submission grappling, Shamrock ran roughshod through the organization, so much so that they asked him to start training more US fighters to send over to Japan. And Shamrock more than looked the part in the WWE. With an intensity that at times bordered on straight up psychosis, Shamrock was always a serious contender. He had some memorable feuds with the likes of The Rock, Owen Hart, and various members of DX. Unfortunately, WWE never allowed him to wear the big championship, which is a shame considering how over he was with the fans. Although his career in the WWE took a toll on his body (dude had some serious neck issues after taking an infamous chair shot from the rock), Shamrock still fought in MMA matches into his 50s. He was also one of the very first inductees into the UFC Hall of Fame.
