6. SmackDown Women’s Championship Match

Call me a stickler, but given that the PPV is called Clash of Champions, we should really be seeing every possible championship defended on the show. However, when it comes to the SmackDown women’s title match there’s been something of a spanner thrown into the works—a big, NXT-branded, three-pronged spanner in the form of Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan.

The trio debuted on SmackDown this past week, taking out Naomi and Becky Lynch backstage before gate-crashing the title bout between Charlotte Flair and Natalya.

Thinking things through logically, you’d expect that to result in some kind of six-woman tag at the PPV, but then where does that leave the title picture? Does Charlotte get involved in the tag match? Or does she defend against someone who hasn’t been targeted in this NXT mini-invasion?

One scenario could be Riot, Morgan and Logan facing Naomi, Becky and Natalya, with Charlotte defending against Tamina following her decent showing at Survivor Series. Either way, it feels important that there be at least some sort of women’s title match on the show, even if it’s one that’s interrupted by Riot and her posse…
