9 WWE Stars Who Could Be AEW's 'Lex Luger'

2. CM Punk

The 'CM Punk to AEW' murmurings simply won't abate - and with good reason.

After binning off virtually every wrestling engagement since his acrimonious WWE walkout in 2014, 'The Voice of the Voiceless' took an unprecedented seat behind a table at All In's Starrcast event, signing merch for a line longer than the withdrawals desk at a Weimar bank (history!).

In a complete reversal of spending half-a-decade as a metonym for pro-wrestling counter culture, Punk's name was actually booed throughout the con, owing to the failed MMA star's lawsuit opposite former pal Colt Cabana. All that'd be forgotten if Punk were to show up on AEW's debut show, something which looks more and more likely with each passing day.

Not only did Mr. Brooks make a shock cameo under a hood at an MKW Wrestling show this past April - his first wrestling appearance since 2015 - he's also repeatedly teased involvement with the nascent company, most recently slyly Tweeting in response to Marty Scurll's ongoing 'Being the Elite' skits.

For the last five years, Punk's name has carried the biggest comeback value in all of wrestling. Everything seems aligned for it to finally happen this October.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
