WWE 2K clone, Fire Pro remake or...business management sim?

Fightful has reported that AEW recently filed two trademarks for items "related to gaming". Both copyright bids were logged on 10 September, but only just hit the news.

"All Elite Wrestling: Elite General Manager" and "Elite GM" are the items the company want to trademark. They've been hinting at a video game release for some time now, but these trademarks have fans scratching their heads.

Do AEW fancy launching a management sim-style game first?

Most would probably expect AEW to release a WWE 2K-ish game, or something closer to the treasured Fire Pro Wrestling series. Nobody would see an EWR/TEW clone coming. Maybe it's not that kind of thing; maybe AEW see how much old-school gamers are clamouring for 2K to bring back WWE's GM Mode and think there's a gap in the market they can exploit.

That's just a guess.

Below is the filing in its entirety:

G & S: Downloadable game software; Downloadable computer game software for use on mobile and cellular phones; Downloadable electronic game software for use on handheld computers and mobile gaming devices; Downloadable video game programs; Recorded video game software".
