Edge and Randy Orton's year-long WWE feud ended on last night's Raw, as 'The Rated R Superstar' won what was hyped as their last ever match together when a dribbling Alexa Bliss distracted 'The Viper,' allowing Edge to hit the match-winning spear.

This was an improvised end to a feud that was originally supposed to finish at WrestleMania 37.

Per Dave Meltzer on today's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, the initial plan was for Edge and Orton to work an I Quit match at 'Mania. Instead, Edge came up with the idea of returning from injury, winning the Royal Rumble, and potentially winning a championship, so WWE needed to find a way to get out of the Orton storyline. In the end, they pushed the Bliss button.

As reported earlier today, Edge is expected to wrestle Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37. There's no word on who Orton might face at 'The Showcase of the Immortals.' 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt (and Alexa by extension) is his most pressing rivay at the moment, though there's a chance WWE may blow this off on this month's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view or at Fastlane in March.
