It looks like 2022 will be the year WWE finally delivers the long-awaited Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch singles match.

Fightful Select reported yesterday that WWE had been discussing the idea of bringing Rousey (who has been training for a comeback) back into the fold, potentially as a Royal Rumble 2022 participant. This was followed by the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer claiming that Ronda was "on the books" for WrestleMania 38.

Now, on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer has stated that Rousey vs. Lynch is all but booked for WrestleMania.

Rousey will likely enter and win this Saturday's women's Royal Rumble in order to establish the match. Lynch currently reigns as Raw Women's Champion and is due to put the belt on the line against Doudrop at the 29 January event.

Meltzer added that putting this match together is part of WWE's attempts at generating mainstream press.

Rousey has been out of WWE since April 2019, when she embarked upon a hiatus after dropping the Raw Women's Title to Lynch in the 'Mania 35 main event (a Triple Threat also featuring Charlotte Flair). The duo were originally set to go one-on-one at Survivor Series 2018 before Lynch was rendered unable to compete following a wayward Nia Jax punch.
