Kurt Angle’s 6 WWE SummerSlam Matches Ranked Worst To Best
1. 2001 Vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
SummerSlam 2001 took place in the midst of the Invasion storyline. Stone Cold Steve Austin had already defected to The Alliance, taking the then-WWF Championship with him. Kurt Angle, whom Austin was jealous of because Vince McMahon both valued and hugged him more, represented the WWF as he tried to bring the title back to their camp.
Early in this one, the two went out of the ring and Austin repeatedly drove Angle's head into the ring post. Angle became a bloody mess but had plenty of heart. He found ways to fight back, like when he dragged Austin into the ring by his ankle to apply his finisher.
Austin grew increasingly frustrated that he couldn't put Angle away and eventually struck referee Earl Hebner out of anger. More WWF refs would take his spot only to get taken out by Austin when he couldn't defeat Kurt and became desperate.
Finally, WCW referee Nick Patrick came into the ring while Angle had Austin down for what should've been a winning pinfall. Instead of counting to three, he stopped the match to rule Austin DQ'd for excessive violence to the refs. Angle put Patrick in the ankle lock for the biased call.
This match showed a tonne of heart from Angle and despite the goofy finish, told a fantastic story. It is Kurt Angle's finest match at SummerSlam. Watch is now!
