One of the biggest success stories in 2006 featured Rey Mysterio winning his first World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22. Having worked hard his entire career to get to that point, all it took was one betrayal from a former friend for it to be over.

After costing him the prestigious prize at The Great American Bash pay-per-view, Chavo Guerrero was determined to make life miserable for Mysterio. He managed to defeat The Master of the 619 at SummerSlam, but that win wasn't enough; his goal was to continue to humiliate him until he was gone from WWE for good.

With Mysterio tying the score at No Mercy by beating him in a Falls Count Anywhere match, an "I Quit" rubber match was set to take place on the October 26 edition of SmackDown. It likely would have occurred at Survivor Series, but due to Mysterio requiring knee surgery, the program was rushed and culminated with this matchup.

Obsessed with injuring Mysterio, Guerrero attacked him relentlessly throughout the bout until he gave up. It took an immense amount of punishment before he finally quit, but even after he did, Chavo targeted his knee, effectively writing him out of storylines for the next year.
