The Best Match From Every 2021 WWE PPV
11. Roman Reigns (c) Vs. Edge Vs. Daniel Bryan (WrestleMania 37 11 April 2021)
...and then, a mere 24 hours later...
Perfectly juxtaposed with the euphoria of Belair's career-defining triumph was the gloom and doom punctuated by a certain Tribal Chief's legacy-cementing conquest in the main event of Night Two.
The evening was littered with letdowns as crowd favourites Riddle and Big E dropped their titles to Sheamus and Apollo Crews respectively. The Women's Tag gauntlet from the previous evening was rendered meaningless when the champions retained and Vince McMahon began the evening by burning the Internet to the ground and bringing the curtain down on Bray Wyatt's WWE career using Randy Orton as a proxy. While the tilts between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as well as Rhea Ripley and Asuka offered a welcome reprieve from other disastrous outcomes, the main event was always going to be king on this night.
All three participants had a legitimate stake to leave as champion. Daniel Bryan foretold his departure by speculating it could (and ultimately would) be his last chance to headline WrestleMania and wanted to leave as champion one last time. Edge had a new lease on life following a nine-year hiatus and the stars had aligned for a match scheduled for ten years to the day of his initial retirement. For the champion himself, it was simple. Roman Reigns was attempting to demonstrate that he was in fact the insurmountable 'Head of the Table' he claimed to be.
When the dust settled, the champion made the ultimate statement:
Smash 'em, stack 'em, print T-shirts and revenue.
