WWE: 10 Best Jumps From The Top Of A Steel Cage

5. Matt Hardy vs Edge - Unforgiven 2005

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvBnzbKNc44 This was the second match between Edge and Matt Hardy, and was part of a very real, very emotional story for Hardy. The two former close friends were feuding because of a real life situation involving Hardy, Edge, and Lita, Matt Hardy's former long time girlfriend who had been legitimately found out to be having an affair with Edge. When Hardy discovered this, he was released from the WWE, with fears that he would seek retaliation or cause issues in the locker room. The fans lobbied hard enough that in the summer of 2005, Hardy returned, attacking Edge and being pried away from the scene by the WWE security. As part of this new story, Hardy was granted a match with Edge at SummerSlam, but it was not what he expected, as he was beaten so badly that the ref had to stop the match. Now, he wanted shot another at Edge, and was granted that chance at Unforgiven, inside a steel cage. The first part of the match saw Edge trying desperately to escape, and Hardy doing everything he can to keep him in the cage to inflict more damage. Edge started to change momentum when he was able to block a Side Effect from the top rope, instead bouncing Hardy's head off of the cage wall and sending him to the mat. This allowed Edge to begin a methodical series of offensive moves, including belly to back suplexes, a running boot to the face, and a big DDT. The writing was on the wall, and Edge just wanted to punish Hardy a little more with a series of clubbing blows, and a big powerbomb off of the top rope that gained a near-fall. This frustrated Edge, who began for the door but was stopped by Matt grabbing his boots. The match turned for Hardy after he was able to hit a few counters, folloed by a big Side Effect in the middle of the ring that got a two count from the referee. Both men were down, and Edge saw an opportunity to get through the door and win the match, so he began crawling. Only he was stopped again by Hardy, but not before Lita could slide him his Money in the Bank briefcase. He swung it wlidly at Hardy but missed, which led to a succession of rights and lefts that left Edge tied up in the ropes and the crowd cheering hard for Matt. Edge was busted open, and this fired the crowd up even more. Just as the fans thought the big, happy ending was coming, Edge hit a spear on hardy, who was between the ropes and the cage, and began making his for the corner to escape. But Hardy caught him on the top rope, lining him up into position and taking him down to the mat with another Side Effect, this time off the top rope. This prompted Lita to enter the ring, breaking up the pinfall before taking a Twist of Fate from Hardy, who was almost immediately speared again by Edge after the move. Matt was able to kick out of the pin attempt, and Edge once again made his way to the corner, trying to climb up the cage wall and escape. But Hardy was once again right behind him, climbing up alongside him and smashing his bloodied face into the cage and sending him falling to the mat below. Hardy saw this as his opportunity, and puled his way to the top of the cage. Once he was up there, he looked out at the crowd of cheering WWE fans, gave the Hardy V1 gesture with his hands, and took off with a leg drop, landing right across the head of Edge with great force. Matt was able to get a hand across the chest of Edge, gaining the win by pinfall and getting revenge for SummerSlam. He had wanted to leave this night leaving a mark, and he certainly did so with his vicious diving leg drop from the top of the steel cage.
