3. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Hulk Hogan - WrestleMania VII
Taking advantage of the real war between USA and Iraq, WWE had lightning in a bottle in the re-branding of Sgt. Slaughter as an Iraqi sympathiser. They knew this and swiftly put the WWE Championship on him, causing the fans to search desperately for a hero to defend America. Cue Hulk Hogan, Royal Rumble winner, to challenge for the championship and defend the honour of the US of A at WrestleMania VII. To make Slaughter hated further he was reported to have desecrated the American flag and later set fire to a Hogan t-shirt on air (although not the flag as McMahon originally planned). During their WrestleMania clash Slaughter used the distraction of his ally General Adnan to hit Hogan with a steel chair to bust open his head and make hope for the nation look bleak. Thanks to a dodgy blade job Hogan's face was soon covered in blood and only continued to get worse during the remaining minutes of the bout. Hogan even got blood on the Iraq flag as he tore it up in an act of defiance towards the champion on course to taking his title. This may be one of the shortest amounts of time for bleeding in the list but given the level of blood flow it is probably a good job. Slaughter and Adnan would continue to fight Hogan over the title until SummerSlam, introducing Colonel Mustafa to their fold while Hogan teamed with the Ultimate Warrior to fight them off. The story failed to match the level of interest that the WrestleMania encounter possessed, partly because the championship was not with the traitor as it was during the Road to WrestleMania but with the hero.
