Chris Jericho entered the match alone, promising a mystery partner. That partner, it turned out, would be longtime rival Chris Benoit, now a babyface focused on achieving the same thing Jericho was: main event stardom. Together, they defeated X-Factor and Edge and Christian to earn the title shot. Little did they know that said title shot would occur the next night on Raw, the night they took the next step toward the top of the industry. In one of the greatest matches in the history of WWE's flagship show, Jericho and Benoit proved that they were on the level of the top two heels in the industry. The four all-time great Superstars delivered a match that would make fans of any style proud. Triple H and Austin controlled but the ever-resilient babyfaces fought back. Jericho locked Austin in the Walls of Jericho, nearly making the WWE champion tap out. The Game entered the ring and caught Jericho in the back of the head with a big forearm, tearing his own quadriceps in the process in one of the most notorious moments in WWE history. The toughness the Cerebral Assassin showed by not only finishing the match but also enduring what had to be a grueling Walls of Jericho of his own. Benoit won the match, and the titles, for his team in what was a star-making match for the Canadian Chrises. They would go on to unsuccessfully challenge Austin for the WWE title in the main event of the King of the Ring pay-per-view in June. Afterward, Benoit would undergo neck surgery while Jericho would eventually feud with The Rock and go onto bigger and better things from there.
