Then: New Day were riding high as one of the most consistently-over trios in the industry, so it's no wonder WWE chiefs saw fit to put all 3 members into 2018's Greatest Royal Rumble. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods entered earlier in the bout, then Big E followed suit to enter a decent 14 minute performance that saw him chuck Tucker out of the match.

Later, E found himself manhandled by one man wrecking crew Braun Strowman, and he was gone too.

Now: There's a lot to say in this section.

Big E captured the WWE Title in late-2021, and that should've made him a permanent fixture at the top of the main event pack for many, many years to come. Sadly, an accident involving the now-released Ridge Holland would come to define both men's careers for the worst of reasons; E suffered a broken neck during a suplex spot outside the ring on the 11 March 2022 edition of SmackDown.

That was the end of his in-ring career. E hasn't wrestled since, but he has shown back up as a talking head on pre-PLE panels and in other spots. He was also on hand to push Kofi and Xavier's double heel turn in late-2024, but there's been no movement on an actual match in 2025.

It doesn't look like that's ever going to happen.

Holland was clearly affected by the accident too. He's carried that baggage in his own career, and has expressed sincere remorse over what went down in March 2022. For his part, E has encouraged fans to be kind to Ridge, and pointed out that accidents happen in wrestling.
