The greatest edition of Saturday Night's Main Event ever took place on February 3, 1989. It was not because of any individual match in particular but, rather, because it featured a historic angle that not only split the most dominant tag team in professional wrestling but also set in motion the events that would lead to the WrestleMania V main event.

Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage's split remains some of the most powerful television ever produced by WWE. So heated was Savage that the audience absolutely bought into the anger and paranoia that he expressed in the angle. There was probably good reason to be paranoid, especially given the tendencies of the WWE locker room in the 1980s.

Regardless of whether that was the case or not, Savage was brilliant as he unleashed his frustration on The Hulkster and ended their year-long partnership.

With one angle on network television, WWE had sold thousands of wrestling pay-per-views to the massive and ensured that WrestleMania V would be another smashing success.

For those wondering, the card features: Hogan & Savage's battle with Akeem & Big Boss Man and Hercules vs. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase.
