WWE SummerSlam 2025: 10 Things That Must Happen

1. Cody Rhodes Sinks To Reclaim WWE Title

WWE would claim otherwise, but John Cena's heel run (whilst definitely shocking and the hottest thing in the biz when it happened at Elimination Chamber in March) hasn't been all that satisfying thus far. Sure, he's cut some erm...cutting promos on fans and had some fun encounters with Randy Orton, CM Punk, R-Truth and others, but the complete lack of explanation on a sizeable elephant in the room (The Rock) has knackered proceedings.

Oh well, so much for that. Perhaps SummerSlam is the ideal time to shift things back towards a babyface shift for Cena before he retires at the end of the year. To get there, he'd need to lose the WWE Title and see his heel aura shatter right in front of his face. The fascinating twist served up in this entry is that Cody Rhodes is the one who starts to show some more signs of devilment to get what he wants.

That's been teased on and off for a while anyway.

Remember how Cody hesitated and it cost him before? Yeah, well he hasn't been hesitating on recent episodes of TV when it comes to bashing Cena with belts, putting him through tables or generally running riot on the WWE Champion. On Sunday, Rhodes can get even meaner by sinking to a new low, booting JC in the balls, eviscerating him and leaving Cena in a bloody heap en route to reclaiming the belt.

Then, John can see the error of his ways and win back fans before retiring, and Triple H will have a hot new edgier version of Cody to play around with heading into the final 4 months of 2025.
