4. Starlight #1 (Image)
Described by Mark Millar as Buzz Lightyear meets Unforgiven, Starlight sees the launch of the Millarworld Universe as the brand goes cosmic! Duke McQueen is a space-age superhero who saved the world many years ago and then he got married, settled down, had kids etc. Years later, his wife has passed away and his children have moved on suddenly he receives an urgent cry for help from a distant world. Dare he answer it for one final adventure? Starlight is inspired by classic adventure serials from the 50s where the hero wasn't a billionaire and returned to an ordinary life after his adventures. Millar wondered what happened to them next and Starlight was born (though the title is credited to Bryan Hitch who suggested it to Millar, who was struggling with a suitable one). Joining Millar on his great space adventure is artist Goran Parlov, with Millar praising Parlov as the finest comics artist working today maybe not 100% accurate but his work on Garth Ennis's Fury MAX and Punisher MAX was excellent. For fans of the MIllarworld comics, Millar promises that Starlight is the key to linking together his numerous books like Wanted, American Jesus, Jupiter's Legacy and the Kick Ass series. It sounds out of this world!
