10 Comic Book Storylines To Link The Fantastic Four And X-Men Films
4. Fantastic Four Vs. The X-Men
Another story that could easily be merged into a film as a side or sub plot would be Fantastic Four vs. The X-Men. With Kitty Pryde's phasing power out of control, the X-Men seek the help of Moira MacTaggert, and later the Fantastic Four to help solve the problem. In the source material, Magneto is the head of the X-Men following Xavier's death and final wish. Magneto is immediately untrustworthy of Richards and prompts a fight between the two teams, asserting that Mr. Fantastic is lying about the device's ability or inability to help cure Shadowcat. The Fantastic Four at the same time were at the height of distrust in their leader as it had recently been revolved that Richards purposely exposed them to the cosmic rays that, essentially, disfigured all of them into super-powered beings. With no other alternative, the X-Men turn to Dr. Doom in order to heal Kitty. Deals with Dr. Doom, however, come at a high price, and Kitty doesn't want her team to indent themselves to such a villain at her expense. Meanwhile, Doom requires that the X-Men face off against the Fantastic Four as partial payment of their debt. The usual hero vs. hero antics ensue, though with a twist in the end the combined efforts of Richards and Doom do in fact heal Shadowcat, and Richards is exonerated of his apparent misdeeds by the revelation that Richard's journals were tampered with by none other than Doom.
