Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, but he wasn't always like that. Before he battled gods and endless hordes of mythical monsters Doctor Stephen Strange was a man who wanted nothing more than to regain control of his hands.

Through the teachings of an ancient, all-powerful wizard named the Ancient One, Doctor Strange gained enormous magical powers and a deeper knowledge of his place in the multiverse. He was trained in the ways of magic alongside the Ancient One's most talented student known as Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo who would become the doctor's biggest rival Baron Mordo.

Baron Mordo in the comics is very different from his MCU appearance, as the Mordo in the comics planned on killing the Ancient One once he had learned everything he could and take over as the most powerful magic-user in the universe.

But Doctor Strange was able to thwart Baron Mordo's plan, leading to the Baron's exile and Strange becoming the Sorcerer Supreme we know now. Baron Mordo grew insane through his hatred of Stephen Strange and the pair became locked in a magical rivalry for the ages.
