10 Comics Where You Couldn’t Help But Root For The Villain

3. Mean Machine - Judge Dredd: The Three Amigos

Wanted Image Comics
2000AD

The Judge Dredd Megazine story The Three Amigos teamed Dredd up with his two greatest enemies - Judge Death and the cybernetically enhanced Mean Machine Angel.

Future fascist Dredd never has made it easy for his fans to root for him, and his treatment of Mean in this book once again had readers questioning their loyalties. Promising to release Mean and his family from imprisonment should he help take down a minor Cursed Earth dictator (named, ahem, Clinton Box), Dredd enlisted his enemy's aid.

In spite of his few brain cells and severe anger management issues, Mean proved a surprisingly faithful ally. Indeed, he ultimately wound up saving Mega City One from nuclear annihilation and backed up Dredd in the face of Death's betrayal. And what did Mean Machine and the Angel gang get for their trouble? Dumped in an inhospitable patch of land, then subsequently arrested and locked up again.
