Horror is a medium that has so much range. There are plenty of spooky fanatics who are happy to watch a paint-by-numbers slasher flick or others who enjoy an atmospheric horror novel. But, once you delve into the bizarre world of Junji Ito, you'll understand the true meaning of fear. This mangaka's work is legendary, and Uzumaki is his magnum opus.

Uzumaki tells a strange tale about a town that is struck by a mysterious curse involving spirals. You read as the quiet location delves into insanity, all through the eyes of a high-school teenager.

Part of what makes Ito's work so great is the sense of inescapable dread he brings to his projects. That can be seen in Uzumaki by the bucket load, as you feel the town slowly pulling into destruction and sense the anxiety that comes from their inability to escape inevitable doom.

Plus, Ito is renowned for producing some of the most terrifying images ever seen in horror (take a look at what's above), and this story is littered with those kind of nightmarish illustrations.

You'd be a fool not to read this "spiral into horror".
