6. JLA: Welcome To The Working Week - Patton Oswalt

Comedian, writer, and actor, Patton Oswalt, is such a geek, he regularly incorporates superhero lore into his standup and tv shows. He loves comics so much, he played five different characters in Agents of SHIELD and will provide the voice of the titular character in the animated series, MODOK.

Because of his fandom, it was inevitable that he would dabble into writing comics himself. He has written a Simpsons comic, The Goon: Noir, and a spin-off of Firefly called Serenity: Farewell.

But the one comic of his that really stands out is JLA: Welcome to the Working Week. This one-shot focuses on a teenager called Marlus Randone who loves superheroes more than anyone. When he's accidentally teleported to the Justice League's base, he can't help but spy on the team that he's admired for so long.

Watching Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the others in their most private moments allows Randone to see the Leaguers, not just as superheroes but as people, allowing him to develop a whole new level of adoration for them. Oswalt's story perfectly captures what it feels like to love superheroes in a way that is touching rather than cheesy.
