4. Superman: A True Brit - John Cleese

Umbrella Academy Gerard Way
DC Comics

Because of John Cleese's razor-sharp wit and British humour, he thought it would be funny to co-write a one-story revolving around a British Superman. In this version, Kal-El's spaceship crash-lands in Somerset instead of Kansas. A British couple find him and raise him with British values and philosophies.

The strangest part in this story is when our hero momentarily loses control over his superpowers during a cricket match and impales a player with his bat. Since it's too dangerous to remove the bat from the cricketeer, the player goes insane and turns into the supervillain... Batman!!

If you were expecting the story to have the same level of humour as Fawlty Towers or Monty Python, look elsewhere. Superman: True Brit is a funny concept but it just doesn't work. When it tries to incorporate British humour, it comes across as heavily dated. (Characters can't stop saying the phrase "Jolly good".)

When Superman heads to Wales, everyone is living in thatched cottages that look like they were constructed in the 18th century. Because Cleese himself is British, it's hard to tell if he mades these inaccurate references intentionally since this is how a lot of the world erroneously perceives Great Britain.
