When you've had such a long, epic run on a character, you have to make sure you go out with a bang. That's exactly what Jason Aaron did with War of the Realms, a battle that would stretch across the Ten Realms and see Midgard plagued with Frost Trolls, Fire Demons and Dark Elves.

Marvel execs were clearly excited by the event, leaning heavily on the marketing and including countdown banners on the covers of nearly all of their ongoing runs at the time. This was an ambitious project, but one fans were excited to get behind.

The mammoth event spanned nearly thirty different titles and over eighty individual issues, drawing criticism from some who thought the amount of tie-in books were too much to keep up with.

However, general consensus was that it was worth the effort, as the mainline series gained positive reviews, complimenting Aaron's writing as well as Russell Dauterman's incredible artwork throughout.

When it came to sales, War of the Realms absolutely dominated the market for months. April 2019 saw Marvel take over 55% of market sales, with War of the Realms #1 selling 188,000 issues alone.
