Moira's transformation has come not within cannon but the transformation is our perspective on the characters. In issue two of House of X it was revealed that Moira was a mutant with the power of reincarnation. Not only that but she has been secretly manipulating history in an attempt to save the mutant population.

Over the course of her previous nine lifetimes, she has seen and experiences some horrific things. The first life she lives a long life with a happy marriage and many children and grandchildren before dying peacefully at age 74. Things only go downhill from there. In her next eight lives, she discovers a cure for the X gene before being murdered by Mystic and Destiny for not help her own kind, in multiple lives the rise of A.I. led to the death of mutants no matter what she did.

Now in her tenth, she has accumulated all the knowledge over the course of her previous lifetimes, to put mutants on equal footing with humans. She is using the X-Men like a scalpel to forge the new future where all mutants thrive. Only time will tell what plans she has…
