10 Most Embarrassing Comic Book Deaths
1. Viper (Captain America #180)
Jordan Stryke is hilariously unlucky. First off, this guy decides to take the name of Viper and join a group of criminals that included his brother, who took the codename 'Eel'. Due to Stryke using an alias, neither brother knew that they were part of the same criminal organization. This lack of communication should give you some indication to how good Stryke was as a criminal.
Viper eventually runs afoul of Captain America and The Falcon, although he is able to escape. Later on, The Falcon is able to deduce Viper’s identity due to the fact that Viper made an offhanded comment about his day job being in advertising. This bit of information allowed The Falcon to show up at Viper’s home and promptly take him into custody. Viper eludes justice again, and forms the Serpent Squad, a group of criminals with a weird preoccupation with snakes. They decide to attack Captain America and are immediately defeated.
While Viper is being transported to his court hearing, Madame Hydra attacks the van and kills the guards. Madame Hydra reveals to Viper that she has no intention of freeing him, instead she wants to use the Viper name, and that there can’t be two super villains operating under the name of Viper. Stryke immediately offers to relinquish the Viper name, but for some reason Madame Hydra feels that it’s just easier to kill him and assume the name for herself.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, years later when the X-Men are in Mephisto’s realm (read: Hell), they stumble upon Stryke’s “soul fragment” (essentially a physical representation of his soul) and of course, this too is destroyed. Guy can't catch a break.
