10 Smartest Decisions In Marvel Hero History
1. Tony Stark Creates Iron Man - Tales Of Suspense #39 (1962)
Before Tony Stark became Iron Man, he was your typical genius billionaire playboy philanthropist. (Terribly boring life, I'm sure.) While scouting in Vietnam, Stark was caught in the blast of a landmine, causing a chunk of shrapnel to get embedded into his chest.
When Communist leader, Wong Chu, learned Stark was a weapons developer, he agreed to remove the metal from his torso, if he made weapons for his army. Knowing Wong Chu was lying, Stark and his assistant, Ho Yinsen, used the terrorist's resources to craft a full-body iron suit, with a magnet on the chest plate to keep the shrapnel at bay.
Using his ad-hoc outfit, Stark defeated Wong Chu's forces and returned to America. After modifying his clunky garb with state-of-the-art technology, Stark transformed himself into the superhero, Iron Man.
Not only did Stark turn a weapon of evil into a force for good, he used this same tech to save his life, and reinvent himself as one of the world's greatest heroes.
How Tony Stark became a superhero was so ingenius, the premised was used to kickstart the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe.
