10 Superheroes Screwed Over By Reboots

3. Stephanie Brown

Flash Reboot
DC Comics / Jason Fabok

Oh Steph, the things they've done to you...

Another pre-New 52 character, Stephanie Brown - otherwise known as Spoiler and even Batgirl for a time - Stephanie Brown has the distinction of being heavily disrespected even BEFORE she got rebooted. The most notable case of which being, of course, War Games, where she was brutally murdered and left to die by Leslie Thompkins for DARING to be a superhero and a teenager at the same time.

Fortunately she was brought back shortly thereafter when fans responded to this with unmitigated FURY, and Stephanie was even made into the actual Batgirl. This was by far the best era for the character, and one of the best for the mantle of Batgirl as a whole. Fun, lighthearted, but still with just enough of that dark Gotham edge that makes the bat-family so damn hardcore.

And then the New 52 - the reboot where fun goes to die - undid all of that and restarted the character from scratch. Now, I'm not saying that undoing that idiotic War Games storyline was a BAD thing, but they've kept the character firmly in stasis for fear of losing Barbara Gordon as Batgirl because the status quo rules over all!
