10 Totally Unrealistic Relationships In Comics History
5. Wiccan And Hulkling
The hottest couple in the Young Avengers seem too good to be true: sickeningly cute, two stone-cold stunners, and a couple of the most powerful young heroes on the scene. How do Hulkling and Wiccan do it? It doesn't make any sense! They're almost too perfect. In fact, that was a plot point in the recent, brilliant second volume of the series by dream team Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. See, Wiccan's powers are of the same reality-bending sort as his kind-of-mother Scarlet Witch. And it just so happens that Hulkling is everything he could ask for in a boyfriend: smart, funny, kind, attractive. So who's to say they really fell for each other? What if Wiccan manipulated reality to make Teddy have feelings for him? What if Teddy is entirely a creation of Billy's teenage libido, and the Wiccan powers in him made him flesh without him even trying? It's one of the most heartbreaking plot points of Young Avengers, both for the characters themselves and for the readers: part of the reason the couple have such a following is because they're so impossibly good together, so to find out that idea was being tested was pretty upsetting. And genius. Damn you, Gillen.
