10 Underrated X-Men Characters Marvel Should Totally Be Using

Sooraya Qadir is an Afghani Muslim mutant, who first appeared in New X-Men just over a year after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. She was created by writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely and Ethan Van Sciver, and was an important character visually for showing solidarity with the Muslim community that was so readily demonised after the terrorist attacks and still are to this day.

In fact, that’s a big part of why it would be awesome to see her take a more central role in the X-Men titles again. In a day and age where certain people are suggested blanket bans on the Muslim community, using the opportunity to help educate and spread information about people of that faith would be useful and create a huge amount of goodwill. Just look at Ms. Marvel.

Plus, Dust has an awesome powerset and has been through some rough times which are ripe for exploration. Capable of turning her body into a sentient sandstorm, she’s incredibly adaptable, and had also essentially ‘died’ at one point, which could be interesting to explore from a different religious viewpoint.
